Promise Closet

Our inaugural event at HoneyRock held special significance for co-founder Amanda Haddad. In January, Promise Closet issued a heartfelt call to action, asking for donations of new or gently used prom dresses to be dropped off at our locations or collected by our team members. We joined forces with Lewisville High School to extend invitations to 12 wonderful young ladies, each with unique backgrounds, some facing financial hardships at home, and others dealing with heart-wrenching circumstances.

We were so excited that the gorgeous venue of Flourish Flowers in Lewisville offered to host this exceptional event, crafting a boutique-style Promise Closet that was beautiful. Generous donations poured in, including new costume jewelry, personalized cookies (@ Sweet Therapy by Valerie) fun-filled goodie bags, and even a signed book by a local Christian author. We knew there would be some obstacles with finding dresses that fit every girl, so we set aside donated funds to help any girls who could not find the perfect fit.

The young women were welcomed by a team of amazing women who presented them with over 200 donated dress options. It was an opportunity for connections that exceeded our expectations. During the event, we met other young women who needed dresses as well. It was amazing to make connections and help these young women feel confident and beautiful on their special day. The girls were truly touched by the extra care and attention to detail that went into the event!

The young women who received dresses at Promise Closet weren’t the only ones who walked away with something special. The dedicated women who volunteered their time to help with various tasks, from assembling mirrors to event setup, dress collection, and acting as shopping helpers, also left with profoundly impactful memories.

One particularly heartwarming story involves a lady named Lynette, who was selling her daughter’s prom dresses online. I reached out to her, simply to inform her about Promise Closet and inquire if I could purchase both dresses at a discounted price. Initially, Lynette had plenty of questions, and Amanda even felt a bit apprehensive, fearing that she might be reported for something. However, it turned out that Lynette was genuinely intrigued and following God’s prompting.

In the end, she chose to donate the dresses and became a volunteer at the event. Lynette had the firsthand experience of witnessing some of the sweet girls selecting the dresses she had provided, and she saw their faces light up with joy upon receiving them. It was undoubtedly a divinely appointed connection on that particular day, courtesy of Facebook Marketplace! 😉
